Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) - Industry Certification and Professional Development Programme

The Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) programme provides a benchmark of excellence for measuring capability and proficiency within the profession of logistics and supply chain management. The CPL programme represents the hallmark of logistics professionalism.

The Logistics Profession

Logistics as a term now embraces warehousing, freight, transportation and distribution, through to supply chain management. Today, professionalism of a high standard is required to manage these complex, disparate functions in a seamless and integrated supply chain framework - with a clear understanding of the need to track not only the movement of the physical goods or services, but the related flows of finance and information.

The CPL

Persons attaining the CPL will be able to demonstrate that they have the capability to effectively master the technology and leadership skills required across the broad range of activities that today constitute logistics.  The CPL is a professional certification in logistics that enables employees in this industry to develop themselves more effectively, and assists in defining the logistics profession.

The certification programme will become a life partner for those attaining accreditation, as continuing professional development is crucial to maintaining CPL status. For the first time, persons working in logistics will be recognised, just as other professions provide recognition eg. their counterparts in the accounting, finance, medical, legal and engineering professions.

The CPL programme has been introduced by five prominent membership based professional associations, and the national Transport and Logistics Centre (TALC). These six organisations are represented on the Transport and Logistics Certification Council which oversees the management of the programme, and the regular auditing of the professional standards involved.

The five associations supporting the CPL program are:
  • The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport
  • The Logistics Association of Australia Ltd
  • The Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia
  • Australasian Production and Inventory Control Society (apics)
  • Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management
